Springtime at Jeremiah’s

There is a lot going on this spring at Jeremiah’s!

We are busy working with a number of different groups including Holy Spirit students, Arts with Autism volunteers, and students from the University of Alabama among others. They have been helping us prep beds, clean-up the garden and get ready for our summer planting.

While we have been getting ready for the summer, a small group of students from the University of Alabama have grown some spring produce. They started the seeds in the greenhouse in late January, built the beds up throughout the weeks, transplanted the plants and have watched the produce flourish since! Last week was the first harvest which included lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, collard greens, mustard greens, and radishes. This first harvest was taken over to the Catholic Social Services for individuals to collect on food pantry day. They’re planning to harvest more throughout the next couple of weeks!

They have also been working to plan a volunteer day APRIL 21st from 9am to 12pm at the garden — we would love to see you there! Please remember that any volunteers who would like to come but cannot make it to Volunteer day are welcome on weekdays from 8:30am-11:30am.
